I investigated the birth and death registration systems around the world and discover disturbing vulnerabilities. The government’s mandate is to increase accurate birth and death registration using online registration. They are reducing identify theft by strengthening the security around the birth certificate like holograms and making it more difficult for criminals to obtain. In by doing so, they are making an unforeseen error. They have created the conditions where the Virtual is born. A criminal that only exists on paper, a shield to protect the criminal behind them.
“The baby harvest” is the concept of a criminal syndicate making and raising virtual babies to adulthood to be put on the shelf for money laundering, fraud and drug and firearm importation. The babies once reaching adulthood now Virtual’s will obtain finance, enter the stock market, obtain large life insurance policies, and eventually be harvested, (‘killed off’) at investment maturity.

Disclaimer: I do not know the author; I did buy the book from Amazon; I have no financial connection with the book. This is the first time I have been the first reviewer of an Amazon book! The title might be a little confusing. Although Mr. Rock is a well known security researcher, there is nothing related to information security in the title. The actual audience for the book would be anyone interested in identity theft. Mr. Rock's vision is a world of virtual babies, that are birthed and die under the control of organized crime. The benefits to the owner include: borrowing money, laundering money, taking out insurance policies, playing the stock market, etc. The weaknesses Mr. Rock points out are in the birth and death registration process. As these become more automated, we will be putting more vulnerabilities in the processes. The author points out how archives of personal records, like OPM, can be a part in a larger criminal scheme. We are not there yet, but Mr. Rock's vision may become reality.

This book is packed with information on the vulnerabilities in the death and birth industries.
Yet another forum for criminal enterprise to operate within devoid of legal prosecution, enabled by sloppy implementation of technology intended to make life easier
Very Interesting BOOK. Pretty morbid but informative, especially if your interested in cyber security.
a fun but strange book. it was a good book.
I bought this based on seeing a talk featuring the author. I thought it would be a good read about an interesting topic. Upon starting to read it, though, I found it to be a jumbled mess. It appeared to lack any editing, and the ideas seemed to skip around a bit. It seems like the entire thing could have been made better through the use of a simple outline for the author to follow and some professional editing.

Look, the topic is a great one, and the author is very entertaining to watch as a presenter. It seems like this book was all of his good intentions for sharing the information, but the writing and organization of the book left a lot to be desired. In its current state, I do not think the book was worth the price I paid for it. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't live up to my expectations.
This book is a MUST READ for anyone in IT that is looking to protect clients, companies and personnel from being spoofed, fooled and ransacked.

The publication itself has no page numbers and is cheaply produced; but the data inside is extremely valuable.
Two stars is generous. The book is independently published - large print, double spaced, no page numbers. There is a lot of repetition, and formulaic construction that reminds me of a high school essay, more than a polished publication. Clearly no editing went into this project. The illustrations look like scanned/shrunken pdfs or screenshots, and are often so blurred as to be unreadable. While there is a long list of 'References', the notations in the text are amateurish and infrequent (failed footnoting).
The book seems to have sprung from an essay, that got promoted to a presentation, and then stretched out to book length, without substantial addition of content - that is, the content is that of an essay. About a third of the book is presented as a 'How to Guide for Criminals', but is nothing more than noodling with the basic theme. I doubt any criminals are taking a highlighter to this guide and hatching plans (though I could see a Hollywood screenwriter doing it!).

The TLDR would be "Automation of paper processes, combined with typically poor security and cross checking by government agencies, may make it feasible to defraud the birth registration and death registration systems of the US, UK and AUS. Some nightmare scenarios that could result are presented here."
